Maniratnam made his debut in films through Pallavi Anu Pallavi (1983) in Kannada. He revolutionized the Tamil film industry in paritcular and Indian film in general. He was a trend setter for Indian cinema.His films are very popular for the Story telling, exotic locations, music and excellent photography. He also writes dialogues, scripts for his movies . He started Madras Talkies, his own film production company and prodced several movies. He Married Kamal Hassan's niece and Charu Hassan's daughter Suhasini.They were blessed with Nandan.
